KEARNEY — The Class D-2, district 4 finale felt more like the state championship match, pitting together the top two teams in the state.
No matter what happened in the match between No. 1 Bertrand and No. 2 Giltner — who entered the contest a combined 58-1 this season — it was clear that both teams would qualify for next week's state tournament in Grand Island.
But, there was still pride and a district trophy on the line.
The unbeaten Vikings (30-0) made a strong statement with a 25-22, 25-12, 25-17 sweep of the Hornets (28-2) Thursday at Kearney Catholic's Cope Coliseum.
