Silver Lake falls in first round

Silver Lake's Sydney Parr tips the ball over the net against
Guardian Angels Central Catholic in the first round of the
Class D-1 state tournament Thursday in Grand Island.

GRAND ISLAND — For the most part, Silver Lake didn’t seem too intimidated matching up with the top seed in the Class D-1 state tournament.

But the issue for the eighth-seeded Mustangs against their opponent, Guardian Angels Central Catholic was finding a way to slow down momentum.

The Bluejays (29-4) kept finding ways to put short scoring runs together and eventually swept the Mustangs 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 Thursday night at Grand Island Northwest in the opening round of the D-1 tournament.
“I thought we came out strong and ready to play. I just think too many of our errors gave (Guardian Angels Central Catholic) too much momentum,” Silver Lake coach Stacie Heldt said. “We shot ourselves in the foot. We didn’t make plays when we needed to make some runs on them.”
