Class C-2 state tournament Thursday in Grand Island.
GRAND ISLAND — St. Cecilia has yet to lose to a Class C-2 volleyball team this season, and the Hawkettes weren’t about to change that in the state tournament.
Second-seeded St. Cecilia opened with Tribland foe Thayer Central, the No. 7 seed, and earned a 25-12, 25-19, 25-19 sweep Thursday afternoon at Grand Island Northwest.
“The first game of this match, we couldn’t played better than what we did. (The players) were totally focused and we executed well and did what we wanted to,” STC head coach Alan VanCura said. “Thayer does a nice job. (Bridgette) Baden is a nice player, but we dug a lot of her balls.”
St. Cecilia (30-3) advanced to the state semifinal match against Hartington Cedar Catholic (29-5) at 11 a.m. today at Grand Island Senior High.
