GRAND ISLAND — Exeter-Milligan and Sutherland split the first two sets of their Class D-1 semifinals match Friday, and the Timberwolves' fans, players and head coach had to be thinking, "Oh, no, here we go again."
Thursday, No. 6-seeded Exeter-Milligan upset defending champion Howells-Dodge in a five-set match that made even the winning team shed tears. Surely, the team wouldn't want to go through that again.
That was easy to tell when E-M dominated the next two sets against No. 2-seeded Sutherland to capture a 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13 win.
It took two gutsy performances to do so, but now it can be written: Exeter-Milligan is heading to its fourth straight state championship game. The Timberwolves will play (St. Mary's or GACC) today at 6:30 p.m. in the Heartland Event Center. The game will be televised statewide on Nebraska Educational Television.
