Morningside College burst the bubble of the Hastings College men’s basketball team Saturday by downing the Broncos 88-75 at Lynn Farrell Arena.

HC entered the game with a 5-0 record and looked impressive in its 87-75 home-debut win over rival University of Nebraska at Kearney Tuesday.

“The way that we looked (against UNK) was the way that we looked in every game up until today,” HC coach Lance Creech said. “I don’t know if it was Morningside’s toughness or what it was. But they came out and punched us in the chin, and we were swinging at air the rest of the game.”

On paper, Saturday’s game probably favored the Broncos, who were riding an emotional wave from its perfect record. Morningside entered the contest with a 2-3 mark.
But the contest signaled the start of Great Plains Athletic Conference action. And for the Broncos, the loss was a harsh reminder that GPAC teams aren’t pushovers even with a home-court advantage.
