The Hastings College women’s basketball team needed this.

The NAIA No. 18 Broncos started the season 2-4 under new head coach Carrie Hofstetter, beginning their Great Plains Athletic Conference slate with a 74-66 loss to No. 5 Morningside.

Since then, HC has earned three straight wins, including two Friday and Saturday at the Hastings College Thanksgiving Classic.

After putting up a season-high 99 points Friday against York College, the Broncos continued some solid offensive play in an 83-61 win over Sterling (Kan.) Saturday at Lynn Farrell Arena.

HC, which improved to 5-4 overall, may just be starting to hit a groove. It couldn’t have come at a better time as conference play is set to resume, with HC hosting Doane at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

“This is a good win for us. You know, it was a good weekend for us,” Hofstetter said. “I feel like we were able to focus in on some things that we needed to improve on. We were able to knock down some shots at home and gain some confidence on the offensive end.

“It was a good weekend for us to prepare and correct some things so we can get back on track and jump into the GPAC conference season.”
