Seward's Kourtney Zadina blocks a shot by Hastings
High's Ellen Foote Thursday in Hastings.
Hastings High girls basketball coach Greg Mays had a specific set of goals in mind for his team during its season opener Thursday against four-time defending Class B champion Seward.
Mays knew he couldn’t measure the success of the evening or his team based on the final score. With that in mind, Mays felt the Tigers accomplished some good things — enough to build off from their opener.
As it was, Seward extended its winning streak to 102 games — a streak that’s been in tact since the start of the 2008-09 season — as the Bluejays downed Hastings High 68-18 Thursday night at the HHS North Gymnasium.
The Bluejays are chasing the state’s all-time win streak record of 111 games that is currently held by West Point Central Catholic (2002-2006).
