Carol "Swede" Bengtson
Known for his generous heart, big hugs, big laugh and few words. Swede was born in Saronville, Nebraska, then moved to Trumbull, Nebraska, where at the age of nine he met his future wife, Carole. They were married June 26, 1955. They moved to Milford, Nebraska where he was an instructor for the Nebraska Vocational Technical School and started a family. In 1968 the family moved to Jamaica for two years working for Dunwoody Institute, then to Colorado where he finished both his bachelor's and master's degrees. Thermo King Corporation of Bloomington, Minnesota recruited him in 1971 where he worked for 28 years as the worldwide director of training.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; daughters, Kim (David) Sandquist, Tammy (Al) Hanson and Darcy (Scott) Weldy; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Ivan "Stub" (Glenna) Bengtson; in-laws, Harold and Kathy DeVries; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Gladys Bengtson; Irvin "Tiny" and Viola Metzger; sisters, Rose Marie Justice and Helen "Toots" Keiper; and brother-in-law, Robert Keiper.
Memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at Normandale Hylands UMC in Bloomington, Minnesota. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
