Memorial services for Eugene J. Schifferns will be held on Friday, October 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Eugene Joseph “Gene” Schifferns, 68 years of age, of Alma, formerly of Hastings, Nebraska, died on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home.
Gene was born August 23, 1951 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, to Arthur H. and Marie (Seyler) Schifferns. He grew up in Roseland, Nebraska and graduated from Roseland High School.
On November 19, 2005, Gene was united in marriage to Cindy Haase at the Fountain View Assisted Living Facility in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Papillion, Nebraska and retired to Alma in the fall of 2016.
Gene took great pride in his career and had a great passion for fishing.
He was preceded in death by his daughter; his parents; and a brother.
Gene leaves to celebrate his life his wife, Cindy Schifferns of Alma; daughter, Melanie Hoenfield and her husband, Jamie of Nehawka, Nebraska; stepdaughter, Amy Morrissey and her husband, Darrin of Gretna, Nebraska; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; his siblings, Sheila Williamson, Kenneth Schifferns, and Therese Craft; and other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation or viewing. The family has chosen cremation. A memorial has been established in Gene’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
