Janell JoAnn Watts passed away in Salinas, California.
Jannie was born Nov. 28, 1952, to the late Duane and Cora Alice Watts. She was known as the “Bird Lady” of the Monterey Zoo/Vision Quest in Salinas, California.
She moved to Salinas in the early 1990s and found her love of life ... animals. Jannie graduated from Hastings High School in 1961 where she was a cheerleader and involved in many school activities.
Survivors include her sister, Karen Hanna and husband Jack Bowe of Hastings, Nebraska; nephew, Mark Hanna and wife Debbie of Reno, Nevada; nieces, Heather McLaughlin and husband Shane of Emporia, Kansas, Tiffany Barrett and Vince Knee of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Sydney Barrett of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-niece, Casei Grybko of Fairbury, Nebraska; and great-nephew, Billy Yeager of Beatrice, Nebraska.
Jannie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Duane and Cora Alice Watts; sister, Phyllis Barrett; nieces, Lisa Barrett and Jessica Grybko; and nephew, Dylan Rowden.
Jannie loved life and all the animals in life. Her birds were her babies and have all been placed in loving homes.
Memorials for Jannie may be given to any animal rescue group or to Vision Quest/Monterey Zoo in Salinas, California.
We will all miss her love for life and her determined spirit.
