Former Glenvil, Nebraska, resident Joyce L. Bohlen, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at College View Assisted Living & Memory Support in Hastings, Nebraska.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, November 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil with Pastor Rob Garton officiating. Burial will be at Glenvil Cemetery in Glenvil. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family present 5-7 p.m., and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil. Joyce was born on October 1, 1933, in Union County, Iowa to Virgil and Cora (Nitzche) Sherman. She moved to Hastings in 1941 from Iowa. Joyce graduated from Glenvil High School in 1951. She married Dale H. Bohlen on November 4, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil; he preceded her in death on May 4, 2012.
Joyce was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil. She was also a member of the Glenvil American Legion Auxiliary Post #26. Joyce enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, and attending their activities and birthdays.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale H. Bohlen; son, Richard Bohlen; granddaughter-in-law, Haley Bohlen; and two sisters.
Survivors include children and spouses, Bob and Cindy Bohlen of Minden, Cindy and Jerry Nelson of Clear Lake, Iowa, Randy and Kim Bohlen of Glenvil, Connie Helzer of Omaha, Ron and Jenise Bohlen of Fairfield, and Colleen and James Cannady of Hastings; grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Paul Hoefs, Jeffery and Katie Bohlen, Brock Stecker, Barry and Wendy Stecker, Brooke Stecker, Megan Bohlen, McKenzie Bohlen, Chellsie and Casey Weber, Josie and Nick McDonnell, Jessie and Brandon Anderson, Cody Bohlen, Kellie Bohlen, and Nathan Cannady; five step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; sisters and spouse, Janis Hinrichs of Glenvil, and Janet and Larry Onken of Colorado; brother-in-law and spouse, Duan and Dixie Bohlen of Hastings; many nieces and nephews.
