Karen E. DeMoor, 81, of Hastings, Nebraska, died on Aug. 17, 2019 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
With grace and strong will, Karen fought a three-year battle with lymphoma. Her joyful spirit lives on through the countless lives she touched.
Karen was born in Clay Center, Nebraska, on Aug. 12, 1938 to Wesley and Ruth (Rauscher) Birch. She was raised in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1957. Karen was a self-taught CPA and a meticulous bookkeeper, working for several businesses in Hastings. Although retired, Karen worked for American Family Insurance two mornings a week, which kept her mind sharp until the end of her life.
Karen was a tireless volunteer during her life, volunteering for the American Red Cross and March of Dimes, and being active in the First Presbyterian Church while her children were growing up. Karen was also Nebraska state president for the Mrs. Jaycees in 1972.
Karen was an avid reader and was widely read in many topics. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's numerous sporting events. Karen especially enjoyed sharing the holidays with her family and visits to southern California watching her granddaughter boogie board and skate along the beach boardwalks.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; son, Craig DeMoor; and daughter-in-law, Rose DeMoor.
Survivors include her children, Steve DeMoor, Lori Mastin (Bob), and Kimberly Klamik (Rick); grandchildren, Megan Mastin, Allison Klamik and Adam Klamik.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
