Karl Dean Thiel passed away at his home in Hastings on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
Honoring his wishes, Karl will be cremated. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to the family. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling arrangements. Condolences can be left at www.dewittfuneral.com.
Karl was born to Frank and Jeane (Cooley) Thiel on May 24, 1946 in Norfolk. Karl was the oldest of Frank and Jeane’s 14 children. Karl attended schools in Salt Lake City, Utah. Karl was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, serving his country from November 1965 to November 1967, being honorably discharged in April 1971. Karl operated an armored personnel carrier in Vietnam. Karl began driving truck with his father at the age of 14. He was an over-the-road truck driver, driving 6 million miles accident-free, until his retirement in 2011. Karl loved family get-togethers and was always the first to offer help when needed. He will be missed.
Karl is survived by his sisters, Bonnie LeFevre of Hastings, Cheryl Turner of Westminster, CO, and Jane Brennfoerder of Aurora, CO; sisters and brothers-in-law, DeeAnn and Ronald Krysl of Atkinson, Terry and James Nabower of Holstein, and June and Tim Stark of Henderson, NV; brothers, Bill Thiel of Holstein, James Thiel of Holstein, and Michael Thiel of Aurora, CO; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sharon Thiel of Grand Island, Edward and Cheryl Thiel of Hastings, and Daniel and Monnica Thiel of Wellington, CO; brother-in-law Daniel Klein of Roseland; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Karl was welcomed in heaven by his parents; sister, Fanny Klein; brother-in-law, Franklin D. LeFevre; and nephews, Scott LeFevre, Steven LeFevre and Ryan Thiel.
