Kearney, Nebraska, resident LaVeda M. Schroeder, 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.

Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 3, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Revs. Duane Duley and John Rasmussen will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney.

LaVeda Mae Schroeder was born on July 18, 1928, in Adams County, Nebraska, to Erich and Helena (Potratz) Struss. She was united in marriage to Robert A. Schroeder on Dec. 27, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings. The couple moved to Kearney in 1955.

LaVeda worked for First National Bank as a teller and was a President’s Club member in Avon sales. Later in life, LaVeda worked as a greeter at Walmart for 20 years.

LaVeda graciously hosted many gatherings for family and friends. LaVeda was involved as a leader in Cub Scouts, 4-H and was a charter member of the Mary Martha Guild at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. She loved to travel, enjoyed sewing, needlework and crocheting, and was an avid card player. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney, Sweet Adalines and Church Choir.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jerry Schroeder and his wife, Judy, James Schroeder and John P. Schroeder and his wife, Jennifer, all of Kearney; daughters, Nancy Newman and her husband, Dan of Surprise, Arizona and Norma Lucas of Fort Collins, Colorado; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Anderson and her husband, Milton of LaHabra, California and Doris Renz of Park Ridge, Illinois; brother, Larry Struss and his wife, Kay of Hastings; sister-in-law, Pat Struss of Grand Island; along with many other relatives and friends.

LaVeda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Schroeder; son-in-law, Bob Lucas; and brother, Ralph Struss.
