UBBNRD talking meter mandate

Yet another Nebraska natural resources district that encompasses part of Tribland is moving in the direction of mandatory metering for all groundwater irrigation water.

The Upper Big Blue NRD has scheduled a Nov. 5 public hearing in York for the purpose of considering a nearly districtwide flow meter mandate — plus the establishment of a five-year, 45-inch groundwater allocation per certified irrigated acre that would take effect if the district’s average spring static groundwater level hits its “allocation trigger.”

The UBBNRD, based in York, includes northeastern Adams County, northern Clay and Fillmore counties and almost all of Hamilton County in Tribland, as well as all of York County and parts of Saline, Seward, Butler and Polk counties.
