Event stresses importance of fitness

Jumping rope with the help of a few friends, filling plastic bags with pretzels and crackers and playing kickball were just a few of the activities area students tried Tuesday.

About 500 fourth-graders from schools in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties gathered at the Osborne Family Sports Complex on the Hastings College campus to learn about fitness and nutrition.

“Some of this might be a reinforcement or they might be hearing it for the first time,” said event organizer Desiree Rinne. “At this age, they tend to get those pieces we’re trying to get across to them. They just get it.”
