Education Committee meets in Hastings

The Nebraska Legislature’s Education Committee heard testimony from administrators of the three Tri-City public school districts and other school officials during a hearing Wednesday in Hastings.

The hearing conducted in the Hastings Senior High Auditorium was the first of four for the committee across the state giving Nebraskans the chance to sound off about the state’s current funding system for K-12 education.

“When we started this we intentionally said, ‘We want to start with a clean slate,’” said Sen. Kate Sullivan of Cedar Rapids, committee chairwoman. “Even though we have come up with some talking points, this group has not reached any consensus on any of the ideas or issued any recommendations. We’re truly here to listen.”
