HU makes sewer rate, use changes

Companies that bring extra-strength waste deliveries to the Hastings Pollution Control Facility could charged specific amounts for concentrations of solids, grease and chemicals in the waste, following Thursday’s action by the Hastings Utilities Board of Public Works.

The board proposed amending two ordinances in the city’s sewer use regulations and rate structure following a months-long discussion about the language used in the ordinances and the cost impact they will have on companies that currently rely on the waste facility for waste drop offs.

The proposed changes will be forwarded to the city council for its consideration later this month. If approved, the changes will go into effect Jan. 1, 2014.
