Parents recall their worst nightmare
Plumes of smoke caught Mark Thallman's eye.
He thought of his house, where he was heading to pick up his two daughters, Caroline, 10, and Allie, 8. The plan had been to take them to their first dance lesson of the fall semester.
When he got to the house, he was relieved it wasn't on fire. But he couldn't find the girls.
