County bridge work overflowing

Crews work on a bride along Prairie Lake Road between
Southern Hills Drive and Smokey Hill Road Tuesday. An October
3 storm damaged many county roads and bridges.

After a chaotic storm the morning of Oct. 3 deluged Hastings and much of Adams County in more than four inches of rain, road and bridge crews were greeted by extensive road damage and setbacks to existing projects.

The Adams County Roads Department started receiving calls about water on county roads and damage to county bridges almost immediately, and is still working to recover from the high-water levels and washouts.

As of this weekend, Prairie Lake Road between Prosser and Bladen avenues southwest of Hastings remains closed due to a complete washout of the road in the lowlands there. Prairie Lake is the only remaining closure out of several county road outages over the past week.
