Church initially votes to leave ELCA

The congregation of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church cast an initial vote Sunday to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, an administrative and advocacy organization of Lutheran churches.

A total of 382 active members of the church body participated in the vote during a special meeting Sunday afternoon, and the final tally was 117 members in favor of remaining in the ELCA and 264 in favor of leaving. One ballot was ineligible. The church's average Sunday attendance is around 550 people, including children.
