Go band or go home

Street during Band Fest Saturday in Minden.

MINDEN — The streets here sounded like an all-encompassing mix tape Saturday morning, with bands playing everything from the Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black” to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” score to LMFAO’s upbeat “Party Rock Anthem.”
Junior high and high school bands participated in the daylong Minden Bandfest parade and field competition.

With no floats, the Bandfest parade is all about the music, said coordinator Todd Jensen.

“We have always felt that we wanted to have the spotlight on the bands,” he said, “and by not having the floats it gives us the ability to space out the bands and have our full attention on them when they march by without any interference and that seems to work well.”
