Supervisor taken to Mary Lanning during meeting

County supervisor Dale Curtis, 65, was taken by ambulance to the hospital this morning after becoming unresponsive during the Adams County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The incident happened at the beginning of the meeting as the supervisors were giving committee reports. Curtis, who was seated in a chair at the front of the board room alongside the other supervisors, appeared to have fallen asleep. Supervisors tried to awaken him, but he was unresponsive.

Deputy county attorney Timory Naples called 911 and a defibrillator was obtained from elsewhere in the courthouse. An Adams County Sheriff's deputy assisted at the scene until EMTs from Hastings Fire and Rescue arrived.

Curtis was revived and speaking by the time EMTs took him out of the building. He was taken by ambulance to Mary Lanning Healthcare. As of 5 p.m., he was listed in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

After Curtis was taken to Mary Lanning, the board went on to finish its meeting.
