Clay Center building to be middle school

CLAY CENTER — When Sandy Creek middle school students return to class in August, they will be gathering in Clay Center rather than near Fairfield.

During their regular meeting at the Clay Center school Monday, South Central Unified School District No. 5 board members voted 14-0 to approve a reconfiguration that would establish a middle school for sixth- through eighth-graders in the Clay Center building.

USD Superintendent Randall Gilson said the move will improve building and staff efficiency as well as the overall educational experience for students.

The USD, which includes Lawrence-Nelson and Sandy Creek schools, currently has five buildings: An elementary school in Lawrence, secondary school in Nelson, elementary school in Clay Center, K-12 building outside of Fairfield and preschool in Fairfield.
