Clay Center woman killed in crash
An 18-year-old Clay Center woman died in a two-vehicle collision Friday evening southeast of Fairfield, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Casie Gibbs was driving northbound on Road O when she reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at Route 74. Then the vehicle was broadsided by a vehicle reportedly driven by Kenneth J. Schuck of Edgar, who had been driving eastbound on Route 74.
The collision occurred three miles east and one mile south of Fairfield at 9:16 p.m.
Gibbs died as a result of the collision. Schuck and two passengers in Gibbs' vehicle were taken by ambulance to Mary Lanning Healthcare. One of the passengers was life-flighted to a hospital in Lincoln.
Restraints were not in use in either vehicle at the time of the collision.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating the collision with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and Hastings Police Department.
Hastings Fire and Rescue sent three ambulances to Clay County for a rural meet to provide advanced life support services to the injured and bring them to Mary Lanning.
