Fire damages house on Sixth Street

Firefighters put out a house fire Sunday evening at Sixth Street and Bellevue Avenue.

The fire caused structural damage to the two-story house at 1018 W. Sixth St. owned and occupied by Martha “Cordie” Woods.

No one was at home at the time of the fire. The fire was reported by a passerby at 8:46 p.m. Hastings Fire Chief Kent Gilbert said one room on the first floor was nearly engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.
