HC women cruise to pair of wins

Two wins. Two shutouts. Fifteen goals scored.

That’s the weekend the Hastings College women’s soccer team put in, downing GPAC foe Mount Marty 6-0 Saturday and following with a 9-0 rout of Bethel (Kan.) Sunday.

“The whole weekend was great. We got a lot of kids some time, and incorporated a lot of ideas of things we’ve been trying to build upon since the beginning of the season,” said first-year head coach Mark Hiemenz. “We’ve been playing very high competition early in the season, and it’s benefiting us now because they’re moving the ball fairly quickly and their finding space and exploiting it. It’s been positive — it’s nice to get more results for the work they’ve been putting in.”

After starting the season 0-6, the Broncos picked up their fourth consecutive win to improve to 4-6 overall. Most notably, though, is the team’s 3-0 record against conference competition, which also puts the Broncos on top of the conference standings.
