GRAND ISLAND — Few teams have taken a hit like the Doniphan-Trumbull girls golf team did and bounced back from it. The Cardinals lost four golfers from last year’s team, including four-time state champion Danielle Lemek.
But Doniphan-Trumbull overcame the odds, and is going back to the state tournament as a team.
The Cardinals placed third at the Class C, District 1 meet Tuesday at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island, scoring a team total of 445.
“It feels awesome because nobody thought we’d have much of a chance this year. We’re very young, very inexperienced,” said Doniphan-Trumbull head coach Chris Seberger.
