The smiles, hugs and excited whispers were growing.
The Hastings High girls golf team had an inkling that it was in good shape for a chance at state as the Class A, District 4 meet at Lochland Country Club was drawing to a close Tuesday.
When it was all said and done, the Tigers finished with a team score of 362 to earn third-place overall — 10 strokes ahead of fourth-place Papillion-La Vista and just two strokes behind runner-up Lincoln East — to qualify for state.
“It’s our best team score of the year. The last two weeks, we dropped our best score of the season by nine strokes, and we dropped another nine today,” coach Tim Canady said.
