Panthers fall to top-seeded Northwest

Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan's Shelby Schelkopf slides safely into
home plate against Grand Island Central Catholic/Doniphan-Trumbull
catcher Tasha Bredvick in the first round of the B-5 district
tournament Thursday at Smith Complex.

It was a busy day at the Smith Softball Complex, the site for the Class B, District 5 softball tournament, Thursday. Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan advanced the furthest of all Tribland teams before losing. But like most teams this season, the Panthers could not keep up with the hitting of Northwest.

Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan fell to the top-seeded Vikings 10-4 in the third round of the winner’s bracket. The Panthers (25-10) fell one win shy of the championship, and will have to work their way there via the consolation bracket today — needing three wins to reach next week’s state tournament.

The tournament concludes today, with the championship game at 2 p.m. — and a second if-necessary game to follow.
