STC knocks off No. 2 Sutton

St. Cecilia's Canon Howell avoids a hit by Sutton's Trae Ramer
in the first half Friday night in Sutton.

SUTTON — When St. Cecilia and Sutton met last season, it was an old school football game with physical defense and tough rushing attacks.

This year was no different — with the exception of the outcome.

St. Cecilia knocked off the Class C-2 No. 2-ranked Mustangs 21-14. The Bluehawks' ground game did its job, while the defense sealed the victory.

"It was an outstanding effort all around from our players," said STC head coach Carl Tesmer. "It was a tough ball game... (Sutton) is as good as anybody around. I want to compliment our defensive coach Randy Ahrens and our defensive players. We put together a nice little package."
