It’s a perfect day for softball when the sun is shining, temperatures are warm and the biggest question for a fan is how strong of sunblock to wear.
That was not the case Friday during day two of the Class B, District 5 softball tournament at the Smith Softball Complex. Snow flurries, cold temperature and gusting winds were what greeted the fans and players instead.
The sun started to peak through the clouds just in time for the championship game, but that was about the only positive for Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan.
The Panthers fell 9-0 in six innings to Northwest in the championship game, advancing Northwest to the state tournament for the first time in the program’s history. FC/E-M committed seven errors in the loss.
“Against a team like Northwest, you can’t make those mistakes. We missed cutoffs and I thought a couple times we just didn’t make solid plays and you have to against Northwest, especially a team that Dave (Prokesh) coaches. He is just fundamental and his record speaks for itself,” said head coach Steve Adkisson.
