COLUMBUS — Doniphan-Trumbull’s Brandi Lemek came into this year’s girls golf season with more than the weight of her golf bag on her shoulders. She also carried the weight of her last name.
The freshman is the younger sister of Danielle Lemek, who won four state titles from 2008-11 during her time as a Cardinal and is now playing for Bradley University. But so far, Brandi has started off on the right foot, earning her first medal as a freshman in the Class C state tournament.
After starting the day in 15th place, Lemek shot a 93 in Tuesday’s final round of the Class C state meet to finish with a 187. Lemek placed ninth individually, while her team was 13th with an 881 (442-439). The Minden girls golf team placed sixth after shooting a two-day total of 807 (399-408).
The Whippets had two girls medal in Paige Kristensen and Ashton Boldt. Kristensen placed in a three-way tie for 11th, shooting a 96 on the first day and following it with a 94 for a 190. Boldt shot a two-day total of 191 (93-98) for 14th.
