HHS, AC seasons come to end

Grand Island Northwest base runner Jennifer Adams beats
the tag from Adams Central shortstop Alexis Grimmett to
steal second base during the Class B-5 district tournament
Friday at Smith Complex.

Friday proved to be a tough day for local softball teams in the Class B, District 5 tournament at the Smith Complex.

No. 6-seeded Hastings High held a 3-0 lead over No. 4 Holdrege in an elimination game late Friday morning, but the Dusters scored nine runs in the sixth inning to end the Tigers' season with a 12-3 victory.

No. 2 Adams Central fell to top-seeded Northwest 5-0 in a winner's bracket game Friday morning, but the Patriots still had a chance to reach the district championship if it could get past Holdrege in the consolation semifinal.

And for the first four-and-a-half innings, it looked as if Adams Central would do just that. But Holdrege again came from behind to earn a 5-3 win.
