DONIPHAN — Though the Doniphan-Trumbull vs Sutton game may not have been the Class C-2 No. 1 against No. 2 like it almost was, anyone who thought the game wasn't going to be as exciting was dead wrong.

The C-2 No. 1 Cardinals held on late in the fourth quarter to beat No. 10 Sutton 34-30 on Friday, scoring on their final possession and coming up with a big defensive stop to end the game.

"We played some really good football against these guys and it usually comes down to the wire," said Doniphan-Trumbull head coach Brent Breckner. "We talked about it all week, (Sutton) is going to make some big plays, but it's what's important next — that's from Lou Holtz. We kind of stole that. Our kids responded well and I'm really proud of them."
