LINCOLN — Jordan Nash did what he needed to do on the opening day of the state tennis tournament.

With a goal of winning a state title, the Adams Central senior went 2-0 Thursday in No. 1 singles action to advance to today's semifinals at the Class B state tennis tournament at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
Nash's showing helped put the Patriots in a tie for fifth place with 22 points heading into today's matches. Elkhorn South scored 36 points to take first, followed by Omaha Skutt (32), Lincoln Christian (26) and Lincoln Pius X (24).

Adams Central is looking for another high finish after winning the team state title in 2010 and placing third last year. The semifinals were at 9 a.m. today, with the championship and third-place matches slated for 1 p.m.
