Titans girls, STC boys move on to state

MALCOLM — It’s been 10 years, but the Thayer Central girls cross country team is heading back to the state meet. The Titans placed second at the Class D, District 1 meet on Thursday at Branched Oak Lake. Thayer Central scored 56 points and was led by Bailey Linton, who placed eighth in 17:03.86. Madison Reece (17:13.50) finished right behind Linton in ninth place. Malcolm won the event with 28 points, while Brooklyn Swantek from McCool Junction was the top runner. Also placing for the Titans was Rachel Heitmann (17:42.07), who finished 13th. Teammate Shawna Timmerman finished in 18:53.15 and Sydney Cottam ran her race in 21:16.54.
St. Cecilia placed fourth as a team with 76 points. Noel Hrnchir (17:18.38) placed 10th, and Tess Wahlmeier (17:19.28) was 11th. Both qualified as individuals for the state meet.
