Millard South players celebrate their Class A state
championship Friday at Smith Complex.
No. 5 Arlington and No. 7 Guardian Angels Central Catholic entered Friday's Class C state championship game at the Smith Softball Complex on familiar terms.
That's because the two teams had already played eachother six times prior to their latest meeting, with Arlington owning the season series 5-1. The Eagles finished on top once again, capturing their first state title with an 8-0 decision called by the mercy rule.
"We were very familiar with their lineup and we know what their style of play is," said Arlington head coach Janelle Lorsch. "We just had a lot of confidence. When you beat a team five out of six times, you come into that next one and you can feel some ease, some calm."
