Broncos rally in road victory

FREMONT — In 1999, one of the most common phrases around was, “Is that your final answer?”, taken from the show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” many people were stunned with the way “The Sixth Sense” ended, and kids were more concerned with catching Pokémon than homework.

The year 1999 also marked the last time the Hastings College football team started a season 6-0.

After totaling five points in the first three quarters Saturday, NAIA No. 17 Hastings College scored 15 in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback victory against Midland to win 20-17. The win improved the Broncos’ record to 6-0 overall (5-0 in the GPAC) for the first time since the 1999 season when the Broncos went on to finish 11-1.

In the early goings Saturday, it was a struggle for the Broncos to get a rhythm on offense and get off the field as a defense. For the first time this season, HC went into the fourth quarter trailing. But two huge scoring drives by the offense and several big stops on defense led the Broncos to victory.

Hastings College head coach Tony Harper said when his defense stopped the Warriors (2-4, 2-4 GPAC) on fourth down with 54 seconds left in the game, the entire sideline could finally breathe again.
