There was something in the atmosphere at the Adams Central gym Tuesday night that suggested the Patriots’ volleyball match against Minden wasn’t going to go exactly as the records showed.
The Class C-1 No. 5 Whippets took AC’s best shot, splitting the first two sets. But Minden was just too much for the Patriots to handle down the stretch, with the Whippets winning 25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 25-14. Minden head coach Ed Rowse said his team didn’t give Adams Central enough credit coming into the match.
“We stunk. I thought Adams Central played pretty well,” Rowse said. “I think our girls underestimated them. We just stunk and didn’t bring it tonight. We had our hands full and AC did a good job. I just thought we weren’t ready for whatever reason — no excuses.”
The first three sets were up for grabs with both teams going back and forth. The fans were energized with the match being AC’s Dig Pink match — for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month — and senior night.
“It was exciting. The atmosphere around the school has been exciting all week long,” AC head coach Twila Knehans said. “Anytime we can get the fans out here and the student body, that makes it extra special for us.”
