The Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan softball team had its chance to advance to the winner's bracket of the Class C softball state tournament, but a familiar problem arose in the Panthers' opening game against Wayne.
Fourth-seeded FC/E-M stranded eight runners on base in a 3-0 loss to the No. 5 Blue Devils in the first round of state at the Smith Softball Complex. The Panthers' offense redeemed itself in the elimination game, compiling 10 hits in an 8-0 win over eighth-seeded Gothenburg.
Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan head coach Steve Adkisson said his team changed its approach at the plate against the Swedes.
