DONIPHAN — For the third consecutive year, the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals are back into the football playoffs — and they did with a breeze.

The Cardinals’ hurry-up offense scored 40 unanswered points en route to 40-14 decision over Ravenna (4-4) on a cold and windy Thursday evening in Doniphan.

“We’ve been there the last three years and we want to make that something consistent around here,” head coach Brent Breckner said on the team’s playoff berth. “We hope we got a lot better seed and a better matchup. We’ve played well. Our goals this season were to get there, get a home game and hopefully make a run.”

As of this morning, the Cardinals are 10th in Class C-2 wildcard points standings. That means that D-T (6-2) likely secured home field for its first playoff game next week, but its opponent won’t be announced until Saturday by the Nebraska School Activities Association.
