KEARNEY — Senior Chris Shelton finished fourth, while junior Trevor Jacobsen was eighth overall to highlight a strong day for the Minden Whippets at the Class C boys state cross country meet Friday at the Kearney Country Club.
The Whippets finished fifth as a team with 102 points.
Shelton — a three-time qualifier — picks up his second state medal, running a time of 17 minutes, 15.2 seconds.
"The mindset coming was that I could be a top-five guy," he said. "There were just some great runners, it was a tough race. My tank was empty. I guess I'm satisfied with fourth-place."
