It was a surprisingly comfortable night for football in late November when Harvard visited Clay Center to lock horns in the 1986 Class C-2 state championship game.
Considering that Clay Center’s semi-final game against Yutan was postponed because of snow the week before, the conditions seemed especially favorable for the championship game. Even so, ice in the veins of players on both sides hadn’t thawed one bit since the cross-county rivals met earlier in the season at Harvard.
On that occasion, Clay Center beat the home team 12-0.
