A fatal crash Friday near Fairfield that claimed the life of one Sandy Creek senior and sent three other classmates to the hospital has rocked the community and the school.
The community needed something to rally around, just as badly as the Cougar volleyball team needed a win.
On Monday, in the volleyball team’s first competition since the tragic crash, the Cougars — losers of their previous three matches — rose to the occasion and swept a Sutton team that beat them less than a week before.
On Tuesday, the Cougars kept the momentum alive in the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament by knocking off a good Thayer Central club in four sets to reach the tournament title match.
