KEARNEY — In the 2012 state cross country meet, Minden's Trevor Jacobsen placed 10th, 28.6 seconds behind the first-place finisher. This year, the senior was inches away from a gold medal.

Jacobsen placed second in Friday's state meet at the Kearney Country Club. His time of 17:04.5 is the same on paper as first-place finisher Levi Avila of Mitchell. Avila barely edged out Jacobsen at the finish line, but Jacobsen said it was that way throughout the race.

"It was pretty much back-and-forth for the entire race," Jacobsen said.
