Going into Saturday, the Hastings College women’s soccer team knew how important its final three games of the regular season were going to be.

The first of the three was Northwestern, who was third in the GPAC standings. Hastings College was second.

The Broncos gained some separation from the Red Raiders with a 2-0 victory Saturday at Lloyd Wilson Field, but that wasn’t the first thing on the mind of head coach Mark Hiemenz. Saturday was also the game in which Hastings College honored its seniors.

“This game was big for several reasons, first and foremost, it was senior day,” Hiemenz said. “These seniors have had a great career, and they continue to have a great career. We want to make sure that not just today but for the rest of the season they go out on a good note. There’s a lot of motivation to play and perform well for them.”

The Broncos, who are now 11-4-1 overall and 7-1 in the GPAC, have five seniors on the team — Brittany Toth, Jenn Lerner, Maddie Michalek, Destiny Thielfoldt and Amanda Olson.
