Timberwolves sweep BDS

Exeter-Milligan senior Jennifer Pribyl (13) tips the ball past
Bruning-Davenport/Shickley blocker Taylor Houck (7) in th
e final set of the Class D-1, Subdistrict 2 tournament
Tuesday night at Hebron. The Timberwolves avenged a
season-opening loss to the Eagles by beating them Tuesday
25-22, 25-23, 25-18 to advance into the district final
Thursday against Johnson-Brock.

HEBRON — Jackie Luzum smashed 17 kills across the net while Exeter-Milligan teammates Megan Zwickl, Malinda Hall, Jennifer Pribyl and Amber Pribyl combined for 24 more as the Timberwolves held off Bruning-Davenport/Shickley 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 in the finals of the Class D-1, Subdistrict 2 tournament Tuesday night at Thayer Central.
The win, which pushed E-M to 26-4 on the season, gave the T-Wolves a little revenge for a season-opening loss to the Eagles, but it also put them one step away from a berth in next week’s state tournament.

Exeter-Milligan (26-4) will now face Pawnee City (18-14) in the Class D-1, District 1 championship match Thursday at 7 p.m. in Beatrice, while BDS likely saw its season come to an end with a 24-5 record — the official state tournament pairing won’t be announced until Saturday.

More than half of Exeter-Milligan’s 41 kills Tuesday veered off the BDS blocks, almost creating more havoc in the Eagles’ back row than Erica Yound’s short-serve tactics.
