After helping Hastings College clinch the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular-season title, setter Haley Beardsley said the Broncos have intentions to coast.
“That’s what we’re trying to get away from,” Beardsley said. “We’re trying to remember what we’re playing for and remember to make sure that we’re all having fun and how much we love the sport of volleyball.
“We never want to be content and we want to go hard on every point.”
That approach was evident Tuesday as NAIA No. 5-ranked Hastings College swept No. 22 Midland University 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 on “Play Tough, Play Pink” cancer awareness night at Lynn Farrell Arena. The Broncos trailed 23-20 in the third set before reeling off five consecutive points to close out the Warriors.
“We talked before the match about raising our level of play,” Beardsley said. “Earlier in the third set, we weren’t really doing that, but we fought back and won the last five points in a row, so we were pretty happy with that.
“Once we regained our intensity, it was awesome to see.”
