MANKATO, Kan. — The Rock Hills boys basketball team lost its leading scorer to graduation after last season. The Grizzlies will miss Dereck Gillett’s team-leading 16.5 points per game, but third-year head coach Nick Mizner believes the experience his team brings back will help fill the void.

“We’re returning with a lot of experience,” Mizner said. “We only lost one senior, but we lack size. We will have to rely on speed and guard play.”

Noah Williams is the only returning senior for the Grizzlies, who finished last season with a record of 11-10. Williams is a 6-foot, 1-inch player that can handle both guard and forward positions. Juniors Jerrod Gillett (5-10), Davion McDonald (5-10), and Mason Higer (5-9) will also bring valuable experience to the lineup. All three players are guards.

Rock Hills will hit the road to take on Pike Valley (Kan.) in the season opener on Friday and will then host its first home game on Tuesday against Lincoln (Kan.).

Mizner is going into his third year with the team. During that time he’s totaled a record of 28-14.
